(p.s. news too exciting to put on any other page: alumni game is coming up! This year its May 19th, and its gonna be damn fun. Next years is gonna be even more fun though. Think 30th anniversary, kiddie pool...and a surprise. Date to be released later, but you should probably just keep all of May '08 clear. You don't understand, we've been planning this for four years...)

The Carleton College Women's Rugby Football Club (CWRFC) was founded in 1978 by student Pixie Newman as the first women's rugby club in Minnesota. We are still going strong today, with up to thirty women on our roster, depending on the season. A rugby team has fifteen different positions to accommodate women of all shapes, so anyone interested in challenging herself to try a new sport (and have a good time) is welcome and encouraged to come out and play with us. While a few of our players have experience playing rugby prior to Carleton, the majority are newcomers to the sport. Therefore, we start each season teaching the fundamentals, with an emphasis on safety and fun. Mostly fun, I mean safety.

CWRFC holds practices on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 PM during the fall and spring seasons. In the winter, we have practices one afternoon a week in the (indoor, heated) Rec Center. Student captains are responsible for all aspects of running the club and practices.

The bonds created between women on CWRFC are strong both at Carleton and among alumni. Each spring, we host an alumni game in conjunction with men's club to welcome back CWRFC alumni of all classes. In the fall and spring, one member of the boys' or girls' team hosts a co-ed social each week to emphasize camaraderie and allow team members a chance to get to know one another in an different environment. Oh, one more thing. Besides checking out our BRAND new "how to play" page, you (Carleton Rugby Alumn, Parent, Participant, Interested Person) should also consider buying some of our MERCHANDISE. That's right, we have our very own, CWRFC brand merchandise. So far, we're producing sports bras, jersey's (for the kids or small friends), pint glasses, shorts, socks, and we're currently taking suggestions.
